KNIT AND CROCHET
I was watching a Public Broadcasting Series television program that showed us what would happen to the earth if all the people disappeared. I had always been told that the cockroaches would inherit the earth.
If fall humans and all other large animals were to disappear, the tiny creepy crawlers that share our planet would carry on life without a second thought. But if insects disappeared, our world as we know it would collapse. With no bees and bugs to pollinate flowers, crops would fail and we would starve. With no beetles and flies to recycle waste, dead bodies and dung would pile up all over the place. The little creatures that crawl around the gardens, creep across our ceilings and buzz around our lives are more important. They are essential. Without them, the world would be a very nasty place indeed. For every person alive today, there are 200 million insects.
In thinking about that and what the PBS program was saying, I decided to make a series of work regarding the mighty insects.
